Sundays Feb 25- Pets and Family Violence, What is “The Link”?

Sunday February 25 2018

10:30am- 12:30pm

Koffler house (569 Spadina Avenue), second floor

For many Canadians, pets are family. While the human-animal bond has significant benefits, it can also be a tool to gain power and control.

Animal cruelty.
Child maltreatment.
Domestic violence.
Elder abuse.
It’s all connected.

Our speakers Yvonne Tang and Hayley Glaholt will talk about Link Coalition Toronto, a SafePet Program that arranges foster homes for the pets of domestic violence survivors. Find out why SafePet is essential to helping pets and women escape abuse sooner. Our speakers will tell us why it’s so relevant today and what their dreams are for the future.

Whether you love pets or love humans or love both, violence against one is violence against all. Yvonne and Hayley are passionate about coalition building and believe that ending abuse is everyone’s responsibility.

Yvonne Tang and Hayley Glaholt co-founded Link Coalition Toronto over sushi and wine in Spring 2017. As feminists, passionate animal lovers, and born-and-raised Torontonians, they knew that the Link Coalition was a vital resource missing from our city. In their “regular” lives, Yvonne is Director of Exhibitions and Events at Lord Cultural Resources, an international museum consulting firm while Hayley is the Principal Mediator at Hayley Glaholt Mediation, specializing in resolving ethno-religious conflicts in families, communities, and workplaces.

Our musical performer will be Erik Bleich. Erik is a singer/songwriter whose genre blends classic pop and folk traditions – from street lit lullabies to manic, rambling romps. It’s his vision of folk music for the Internet Age. We are so excited to have Erik back on our Oasis stage!
