Sun Dec 26 – [Online] A Virtual Field Trip to West Hill

‘Twas the day after Christmas, and all through the town
Lots of folks were still sleeping, not many around…

This Sunday, instead of our usual Toronto Oasis Sunday Zoom meeting, we will be going on a virtual field trip and join the online Sunday gathering of West Hill United Church. Their meeting starts at 10:30 am.

Toronto Oasis is a local chapter of the Oasis Network (https://www.oasisnetwork.com/). West Hill United Church has long been affiliated with the same Oasis Network. Their minister, Gretta Vosper, who came out as an atheist in solidarity with atheists persecuted in other parts of the world, has participated on the international leadership team and has spoken at Oasis gatherings in several states. West Hill United Church conducts its meetings without the use of God language. Please note that their minister, Gretta Vosper, is currently on a leave of absence.

The focus of the gathering on the 26th will be an extension of one of the themes from their Wellness group, which has met on zoom on Tuesdays for much of the pandemic. The focus will be on reflecting on living out our values through these particularly complex times. What’s hard and what helps? What’s been encouraging? And what helps us care for our selves, for others in our personal lives, for others all over the world, and for the planet itself.

Let’s join West Hill for a time of sharing, celebration, and inspiration.

The Zoom meeting link for West Hill’s Sunday meeting can be found on their website: https://www.westhill.net/

Tue Sep 15 – [Online] Oasis Network Gaming: Dauntless

Please RSVP on meetup: https://www.meetup.com/Toronto-Oasis/events/273254106

Dauntless from Epic Games. It’s like Monster Hunter but simplified. The game is available in every platform… even Switch and it’s crossplay.
You will need an epic account setup. If you already have one for Fortnite or another epic game, then no problem. Additionally, you will need to complete a 10 minute tutorial going over the basic controls and creating your avatar.

We’ll start our gaming at 9:30 pm eastern. Most people join the server around 9:00 pm eastern.

This event will be hosted by Oasis Network Gaming.

Our own Lola Bradford in a Dance show Mar 21-23

Lola will be performing in the show “Mosaic” by the Only Human Dance Collective (OHDC). It’s at Hart House Theatre at 8pm, Thursday March 21st, Friday the 22nd, and Saturday the 23rd. Admission is $20 except it’s $15 on Thursday, and there’s also discount for groups of 8 or more. It’s a really fun and inclusive group of dancers with a lot of different backgrounds and styles! She says the show is really fun this year. There’s a decent amount of contemporary, hip hop, and ballet, and then a lot of dancer/choreographers bring traditional dances from their own cultures too. And yes, there is also K-pop!

This is the facebook page for the group: https://www.facebook.com/onlyhumandancecollective

And this is for the show itself: https://www.facebook.com/events/332126560721544/

Sun Dec 30 – Lunch at The Church Mouse: A Firkin Pub

You are invited to join us for lunch at The Church Mouse: A Firkin Pub.

The manager, Eric, (a former employer of Michael) has reserved a quiet section of the second floor overlooking Church Street for up to 10 people. (We will adjust the reservation as necessary.) There is a weekend brunch menu and a full bar.

The entrance to the Churchmouse is on Church Street and the stairs to the second floor are at the back of the pub. The Churchmouse is located at the corner of Church and Maitland Streets and easily accessible by TTC. Wellesley bus to Church Street then walk south. Subway to Wellesley Station the walk east to Church Street then south one block to Maitland St. or the Carlton car/bus to Church Street the walk north 3 blocks. There is on-street parking but may be in high demand on the weekend.

Looking forward to seeing you all!

NOTE: There will be no meeting at our regular Koffler Centre location at the University of Toronto, because it is closed for three Sundays over the holidays!

You can RSVP for this on our Meetup page at https://www.meetup.com/Toronto-Oasis/events/257221573/

Sun Dec 23 – Toronto Oasis Visits West Hill United Church

This week Toronto Oasis is taking a road trip to participate with our other Oasis Network member in Toronto, West Hill United Church (http://www.westhill.net/). (It’s the church where Gretta Vosper is the Minister – she helped found Toronto Oasis.) We will participate in their entirely non-theist service.

Please note that their service starts at 10:30am, not our usual 11am start!

If you don’t have a car, it’s still quite easy to get to by TTC, even on a Sunday morning. Subway to Kennedy Station, take the quite frequent 86 Scarborough bus from there to the Manse Road stop, then walk back (West) a block to Orchard Park. If you catch that bus at 9:50am (or perhaps even the next one, at 9:56am) you should be in plenty of time.

There will be no meeting at our regular Koffler Centre location at the University of Toronto, because it is closed for three Sundays over the holidays!

You can RSVP for this on our Meetup page at https://www.meetup.com/Toronto-Oasis/events/257291617/

Sunday Gathering – Oasis Brunch

This week we will meet for brunch and discussion at the Bedford Academy, 36 Prince Arthur Ave.

We will meet at the restaurant, so please go directly there (take the Bedford exit from St. George Station, if you are coming by TTC). The reservation is under “Oasis”. Please RSVP on our Meetup page for it, https://www.meetup.com/Toronto-Oasis/events/241328797/, so we can be sure of the numbers!

Looking forward to some more lively conversation and the chance to get to know each other better.

July 9 – Brunch and Visiting!

Please join us for a brunch and discussion focused on the core values of the Oasis Network which are:

People are more important than beliefs.
Reality is known through reason.
Meaning comes from making a difference.
Human hands solve human problems.
Be accepting and be accepted.

This week we will meet at Koffler House by 11:15 and then walk over to Madison Avenue Pub (14 Madison Ave. – it runs North from Bloor, 1 block East of Spadina) for brunch at 11:30.

You  can meet us there if you prefer – the reservation’s under “Oasis”. It would be best to RSVP on Meetup so we can be sure of the numbers!

Looking forward to some more lively conversation and the chance to get to know each other better.
